Guerrera's latest work is aimed well and truly at the No Limits Hold 'Em player who wants that little something extra in their game. It's about fine tuning. It's about tinkering. Not that the author ever specifically tinkers, although he may well do at the weekend.

The book offers a relatively prosaic approach which gently guides you by the hand and schools you in the art of adaptability. The message that you must adapt when facing different opponents and how you pull that off is loud and clear. Guerrera doesn't so much bark instruction at you as offer gentle but insistent persuasion as if bewitched by a state of hypnotic suggestion.

Hand distribution lends, probability factorials, combinations and approximations are all thoroughly covered, although a video tutorial featuring Carol Vorderman wouldn't go amiss.

The value of a good, old fashioned diagram can never be over stated and he doesn't disappoint on this front. In fact there's no shortage of engaging charts, tables and formulae.

These sit well with discussions on why too tight is better than too lose and using return on investment to determine risk threshold. Further down the line, we're schooled in the art of exploitative play versus equilibrium play and in doing so, Guerrera manages to effectively straddle both the online and live tournament camps.

A well conceived glossary yields fourteen pages of good, helpful stuff making the value of this book as a resource something you can't deny. "Tournament Killer Poker By The Numbers" is unashamedly geared toward the maths aficionado but there will be value to those less proficient with numbers. Read this and you'll certainly get the tools to understand and if you're lucky, improve.
